Brundage to Bear Basin Trail Update!

We have Progressive Trail Design crews on site, they started the lowest portion of the trail near Ditch Witch on Tuesday( see photos). The new section of trail will not be connected through on both ends until we have a chance to hand build a bridge and a short section of trail in the riparian area near Little Goose Creek. We are asking trail users to stay off of the trail until it is officially open and connected on both ends.

They are moving up the mountain and will be starting near Brundage Mountain later today and will be working back downhill over the next couple of months. Brundage Mountain Trail Crew members will be joining PTD next week and working with PTD through the summer Again, we are asking trail users to be patient and let the crews do the work and wait for the official opening before using the trail.

We also have Dirt Candy Designs scheduled to be in late July to work on the segment from Brundage Mt to the top of the PTD build. Expected completion date is mid September. Exciting stuff!

Memorial Day Weekend Trail Report

5/27/22 Trail Report

Happy kickoff to the ‘22 riding season in McCall! It’s been an especially wet and cold spring, but there is finally some dirt to get your tires on. We know a lot of you will be headed up from the valley for the weekend, and we want to get the word out on what is (and isn’t) rideable.

Jug Mountain Ranch

JMR is about 75% open heading in to the weekend. All trails below the reservoir should be mostly rideable. Shoreline is still closed due to snow. Basic Training, South Boundary, and Vandelay are going to be your best way up the hill. Catch Berm and Ernie or Doejoe on the way down - both are riding great with perfect moisture content!

Bear Basin

This weeks warmer temps have really helped melt out the Bear Basin trail system. Trail gnomes have been hard at work clearing downed trees and doing brushing in overgrown areas. Sleepy Hallow, Dellas, and Ditch Witch typically hold moisture and snow longer than the other trails, though they have been melting out and drying quickly. Upper/lower drain are in great shape as is West Face and Grand Traverse. This is still early season, so look ahead and watch out for trail hazards including fallen trees.

Ponderosa

Ponderosa is open but still has some wet/muddy spots.

Tamarack Resort

The meadows XC trails are open and ridable, but the mountain trails are still closed. The Tamarack Parks crew is hard at work to get them tuned up and open for the season as soon as conditions allow! Look for substantial upgrades this year heading in to bike park season including a new blue flow trail, extensive work on existing berms/jumps, and new easier to load bike trays on the lift!

Eagles Nest

Lower Eagles Nest is riding well but road access may not be passable yet so the best bet is out and back.

Payette Rim/Payette Lake

Not open yet and still covered in plenty of snow.

Brundage

Closed with a tentative opening date of 6/18.

While it has been warm and sunny for the past few days, it looks like cold and wet conditions are on the way for the weekend. Conditions are likely to change quickly, and it is always a good idea to stay off muddy trails. Riding on trails that aren't dry causes damage to the trail that requires maintenance. Going around puddles, muddy sections or down trees causes trail widening and additional damage. Point your bike straight at the puddle, and go over or through. You can always throw your clothes in the wash :)

Don't be that person, don't damage our trails. Also, remind cyclists to smile and say Hi! Have a great weekend and see you on the trails!
